massage techniques being applied to a ladies backDeep Tissue Massage and it’s Benefits

Massage is the application of structured pressure on various areas of the body to help alleviate muscular tension and pain.

By using specific massage techniques in the correct way with the right amount of pressure, a massage practitioner can help to soothe sore muscles, reduce pain, aid healing, stimulate blood flow, break down scar tissue and loosen stiffness.

Massage techniques can also assist the lymph drainage system and eliminate toxins from the body.

As well as providing acupuncture I also practice Swedish and deep tissue massage as either a stand alone treatment or in conjunction with acupuncture.

I am a fully qualified massage practitioner with a grounding in Swedish Massage, in which I have a Diploma in Massage Therapy. Through my experience and training, I have built on the techniques I have learned and developed my own method of bodywork and apply massage by using a combination of different techniques including acupressure and trigger point massage.

I have many people who come to see me for massage as I am well known for being able to effectively treat muscular tension of the back, neck and shoulders, stiff neck, trapped nerves and lock jaw.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is one of the most popular styles of massage that is practised in here in the United Kingdom.

Swedish massage has proven itself to be effective in lessening muscle pains and joint stiffness, and also benefiting functional movement in patients suffering with osteoarthritis of the knee. This was discovered during a study conducted over an eight week, its findings are published in the Journal of Australian Traditional-Medicine Society in the 2007 edition.

I first learned Swedish massage at the International College of Oriental Medicine (ICOM) when I was studying acupuncture.

Deep tissue massageAcupressure is a technique based on the principles and understandings of acupuncture. With acupressure, physical pressure is applied to acupuncture points with the hand, elbow, or with various devices instead of using needles.

Through the use of acupressure we can have a stimulating effect on the acupuncture points to activate the flow of qi to bring about specific healing results. This way we are able to help alleviate certain symptoms through it’s use.

Acupressure can also be very effective in relieving muscle tension caused by injury or stress and can also help to bring about a state of relaxation and calm. Acupressure is particularly effective for conditions involving muscles, tendons and joints, such as structural misalignment, orthopedic problems and sports injuries, therefore it is very effective combining it with deep tissue massage.
