Stephen West BSc.Lic.Ac.MacSAc

Hello, my name is Stephen West and I am a fully qualified acupuncturist practicing in West Sussex and Kent.

I graduated from the International College of Oriental Medicine (ICOM) in 2004, where I achieved a Bachelor of Science Degree in Oriental Medicine.

Since that time, I have been in private practice and currently practice acupuncture in Tunbridge Wells, Kent and Horsham, West Sussex.

I am a member of The Acupuncture Society and I am also a clinic supervisor and teacher at the International College of Oriental Medicine (ICOM). You can see my qualifications at the bottom of this page.

What Style of Acupuncture does Stephen Practice?

Being an ICOM trained practitioner, I now practice Classical acupuncture as my main approach to treatment.  This means I take into consideration all the aspects of the individual in order to address the root cause of the condition rather than just the symptoms alone.

Treating conditions this way help to eradicate any underlying causes as well as the symptoms in order to minimise re-occurrence. I have a great track record and have a high success rate in my practice. I am dedicated to learning and also continue to improve his skills through regular study and continual development courses in acupuncture and alternative therapy.

Stephen also practices facial acupuncture for facial revitalisation and the promotion of healthy skin.

This kind of treatment brings about an enhanced complexion and healthy glow to the face as well as helping to eradicate small lines and wrinkles and enhancing the elasticity of the skin to help promote a lifting effect. Through extensive training, I am qualified to treat a wide range of conditions.

I have achieved great results using acupuncture for migraines, infertility treatment, gynecological conditions and pain relief in general. During my studies I also wrote a dissertation on acupuncture for the treatment of insomnia (being a previous sufferer myself) and as a result, I now have a great deal of knowledge about the subject.

During my acupuncture studies, I also achieved a Diploma in Swedish massage, thus further expanding my knowledge and understanding of human anatomy. During my acupuncture studies I was also introduced to the practice of Reiki by a fellow student and completed my First Degree in Reiki in 2000.

Upon graduating from my acupuncture studies in 2004 I then travelled extensively in Asia and practiced acupuncture in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and China. I also spent several months in India where I continued my Reiki training to the Second Degree level.

I regularly gives talks to the public to inform them about the benefits of acupuncture and natural health. I have also attended shows and given demonstrations on the effectiveness of acupuncture diagnosis and treatment.

How I became an acupuncturist

I was lead to the study of acupuncture through his love of the martial arts, a journey he began at the age of seven. In his early teens he began delving deeper into my martial arts training by studying martial philosophy, which led me to read several books on Chinese philosophy and later, Chinese medicine.

I became fascinated with acupuncture at around the age of 15 after reading about it and subsequently opted for treatment following a shoulder injury I picked up during my martial arts training. At 19 I became a martial arts instructor and went on to run two successful classes in the South London areas until the end of my acupuncture studies in 2004.

As my acupuncture training came to an end I then set off to travel through Asia for a year to further my knowledge of the martial arts and acupuncture. For further enquiries, Stephen West can be reached directly on 07962 675311 or by email steve@professional-acupuncture.com
